CineMoms' Kid Reporter Elizabeth Ray Reviews "Rumpelstiltskin" at Center for Puppetry Arts!
Rumpelstiltskin at the Center for Puppetry Arts -
A Modern Twist on the Beloved Children’s Tale
By Elizabeth Ray, age 13
When I arrived at the Center for Puppetry Arts to see Rumpelstiltskin, I didn’t know what to expect. After all, the Center is known for putting its distinctive mark on plays. Once I saw a version of “Beauty and the Beast” there, and it was set in a city junkyard, with “Beauty” working at a fitness center! But with its rendition of Rumpelstiltskin, the Center for Puppetry Arts exceeded all my expectations in the best way.
The colorful sets, playful limericks, beautiful puppets and strong moral theme combine to draw people to this enchanting play. During the show I attended, there were two huge birthday parties there, with easily 30 or so children each. Each group roared with laughter, and the children all left with grins on their faces. Mary, age eight, said, “It was very good. I liked each character.” My nine-year-old sister loved every minute of it, and interestingly, so did my mom and dad!
CineMoms' Kid Reporter, Elizabeth Ray, recently visited Center for Puppetry Arts with her family and reviewed Rumpelstiltskin, which is playing through September 12.
After the show, the puppeteers take the stage and give a good explanation of the marionettes they use. Children can even attend a “Create-A-Puppet” workshop afterwards and make their own Rumpelstilskin puppet if they’d like. All in all, I’d highly recommend the Center for Puppetry Arts version of Rumpelstiltskin. In fact, you may want to have your own birthday party there!
The play runs at Center for Puppetry Arts Fridays-Sundays through September 12. Order tickets online at www.puppet.org or call the sales office at 404-873-3391 .
