Spend A Day At

(l to r, Talia Ossip & Liza Miller)
Two CineMoms' kid reporters visit the
Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville!
Third graders, Talia Ossip and Liza Miller, have been studying rocks, minerals and fossils, and it was great for them to get out of the classroom and see their studies come to life at Tellus. The museum hosts over 45,000 students every year and works hard to match the curriculum of Georgia schools to the museum's exhibits.
Reporter Talia Ossip:
Our first stop was the Weinman Mineral Gallery. I really liked the rocks and minerals section. There are Amethyst's, Granite, Gold, Quartz, you name it. They also have a Granite Cube where you turn it and see how it's made. The Tellus Museum makes learning about rocks and minerals fun. Everything there is incredible and you will see that there are many different types of rocks and minerals. There are geodes you can see. You can even see rocks glow in the dark! I also liked the panning for gems area. We panned for gems in water and sand and found lots of little pieces of gems and minerals. You find your gems, put them in a small baggie, and then they are yours! You can even dig through sand and pretend to uncover dinosaur bones.
Reporter Liza Miller:
The Fossils Gallery was also a great exhibit that featured dinosaurs and ancient underwater sea creatures. My favorite was a huge T-Rex model. Its bones were bigger than me. There was a Wooly Mammoth skeleton and the world's biggest shark jaw. It was super fun. The Science in Motion section was all about transportation. Like the first engines that made things move. There were vintage cars powered by gas, steam and electricity. They had a model of the Wright Brother's airplane and they showed a real life space capsule. You could also pretend to be an astronaut.
Other fun things our reporters did at Tellus were explore the Collins Family My Big Backyard, which is a hands on gallery filled with lots of fun, interactive activities. They also took in a show at the planetarium on Solar Storms, which is very timely as we are currently experiencing heavy solar activity right now. So take it from our reporters, Tellus Science Museum is worth the trip!
